Environmental Assessment of interprovincial projects such as pipelines raises complex jurisdictional questions. In the interest of providing enhanced certainty and at the same time avoiding duplication of effort, the Environmental Assessment Office and the National Energy Board have entered into an agreement whereby the Environmental Assessment Office will accept National Energy Board assessments undertaken pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act as equivalent to an assessment under the BC Environmental Assessment Act.
